International Women’s Day 101: Empowering Rural Women to Climb out of the Poverty Cycle
This Thursday, March 8th, marked the 101st International Women’s Day. This year, the United Nations’ International Women’s Day theme focuses on empowering rural women to end poverty and hunger. Three sisters in Nepal helped rural Nepali women literally climb out of the poverty trap through their bold program to train women as Trekking Guides. An entrepreneur in the USA applies socially responsible business practices to meaningful travel trips intended to raise awareness of issues such as women’s inequality and inspire tourists to actively engage in creating social change. What else can we do to empower women and give them a hand out of the poverty trap?
